Last Few Solo Songs

Lincoln decided we needed a concert tonight! First up was "The Wheels on the Bus" and it got really good! He was really into the motions and serious about doing it all! The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish . . .

I told him to say cheese, and this is the face I got:

Totally precious, but not the smile I was looking for. We sang lots of songs before taking a break to play ball. I am really cherishing these moments before Beau joins us . . . on Monday!!!!! I can't wait, but I know life will never be the same. There will always be time for singing with Lincoln; he'll just have to get used to having a brother singing along with him!

Afternoon with Elmo

The big day finally arrived . . . no, not Baby Beau's delivery . . . Lincoln went to Elmo Live!!!! I had been debating whether he was old enough to enjoy it for a while, but we decided to go for it. I can put that debate to rest because he definitely enjoyed it! Linc was dressed in his best Elmo shirt and Elmo socks, and we drank from our Elmo cup and ate Elmo shaped crackers on the way there. Obsessed, much? (I should be getting major tax deductions from all I've purchased from the Sesame Non-Profit!) We got there early and hit the gift shop for a t-shirt and Ernie plush. He has several Elmos already, so I made the executive decision to get Ernie. He loved it immediately!

We found our seats and got ready for the excitement to begin. I can't imagine what Lincoln was thinking. We kept telling him we were going to Elmo's house and all his friends would be there, but I'm sure he couldn't put that into context. Soon Burt and Ernie came out to start the show!

Look at this face of pure happiness . . . and notice the death-grip on Ernie. It stayed that way most of the show. Occasionally he would let go to clap, but Ernie didn't go far.

The whole gang was there, and Lincoln shouted at each one. Every time one of the characters would leave the stage, Linc would hold his hands up and say, "Where Ernie go?" or "Where Big Bird go?" We kept assuring him they would each be back soon.

I guess I didn't properly explain intermission because Lincoln busted into tears when we headed for the bathrooms. Luckily he calmed down and understood that it wasn't over. Everyone made it back, and Linc was dancing in his seat and in my lap by the end.
We really got a kick out of watching Lincoln take this in. It was nice to do something just for him, since it's been pretty "Beau-centric" around here lately.

He laid in bed and talked about Elmo and the gang for half an hour tonight. We listened to him sing "That's Elmo's World" on the monitor a million times and talk about all that he saw. What a wonderful day!

Ladies Man

Lincoln's favorite parts of church are singing and his girlfriends. They do lots of hugging and playing after the services. Today they all held hands and walked to the playground together. So cute!!!! He kind of lets the girls lead him around . . . I wonder how long that will last.

Busy Bees

I think I mentioned that we had a lot to do in the nursery and that we had a plan, right? Well, the plan went into effect, and things are looking great! Eric and Samantha brought their expertise (and tools) and got started right away.

Lincoln enjoyed watching from a distance . . . for a bit. He wanted to get involved, and he helped carry trim pieces, use the tape measure and sweep up the mess. There was also plenty of entertaining as he sang songs and blew bubbles for us.

Nana and Pops arrived with the last piece of furniture - the chest that had been damaged was replaced! It is beautiful!

The room is looking great - we just need to touch up paint in a few spots and finish hanging a few decorative items. I've already got drawers filled, pillows arranged, and diapers stacked. I love that it has come together so beautifully. Lincoln is enjoying being in the nursery to help or just play, but I know he has no idea what's going on. He probably keeps wondering who this Beau person is that we're always referring to. He'll find out soon enough!!!!!

Whose feet are these?

I don't mean to gross anyone out, but I must keep a record of this awful pregnancy side effect. I'm officially swollen! There wasn't any swelling when I was pregnant with Lincoln, but this one is quite different.

Apparently my socks are too tight . . . guess I won't need to wear socks for the next 11 days! I did have on a really cute pair of boots today. The nurse (at my 38 week appointment) thought I was crazy, but fashion is still necessary! Perhaps a cute pair of flip flops would still be fashionable. Nana is sending me for a foot and leg massage tomorrow, so I'm expecting a little relief. Thanks, Nana!

Bubbly Wednesday

It was such a nice day that Linc and I went outside for some Bubble Time after school. He still loves to be outside and loves to blow bubbles. Our new bubble tools get lots of work! How excited is he in this picture?!?!

Hmmm . . . I think we'll need to have a discussion about where you should/shouldn't point the barrel of a gun - even if it's just a bubble gun! If only the thing would work faster, I'm sure Lincoln wouldn't need to investigate so thoroughly. You have to pump it a few times to get the bubble mixture going, but he didn't have enough patience today.

Daddy's shoes look like fun! Maybe we'll need to talk about the correct feet when we're done with our gun discussion. But what a cutie!

It was a fun evening and filled with lots of Lincoln's laughter. We made a quick trip to Home Depot to pick up a few things, and Lincoln got to buy his very own stick! (It was an 89 cent wooden dowel, and he loves it!) Stay tuned for more fun from the Kuhlmans.

Project Nursery - Episode 3

Another night . . . another project in the baby's room! We picked up the trim from Home Depot and headed home to do a little painting before it got too late, but things wouldn't work out so simply. Some of the pieces were long and hanging out of the front car window when the wind gusted - and snapped the ends right off!!!!!! We circled back around but the wood was in a million pieces on the road. So sad! Lincoln didn't seem to mind and got busy measuring what we made it home with.

Of course, I cried about our bad luck a few times. I know, I know, it's just a few pieces of trim that we can easily get more of. I taped off the doors and window after Linc went to bed and Kevin put the first coat down. We can work on the trim pieces another day! I'm sure Lincoln would be sad to know he's missing out on the painting, but I'm WAY smarter than that!!! He can stick with the tape measure!

Busy Night

There was lots of activity at the Kuhlmans tonight . . . first Lincoln practiced his driving skills. I hope he doesn't take after his Mommy or Daddy when learning to drive. He always call us out when we're honking at other drivers. He says, "Horn the Beep!" Sometimes he later remembers that I was honking at someone and reminds me that I "horned the beep". He never let's anything go!!!

Lincoln was such a big helper putting together Baby Beau's crib . . . twice! We put it together in the living room then tried to move it to the nursery, but it didn't quite fit through the door! Daddy took it apart piece by piece in the hall to try and fit it in without taking it all apart. No luck - we ended up carrying all the pieces in and starting over. Good thing we had an experienced helper like Linc! The nursery has a long way to go, but I've got lots of lists and plans and timelines. I'm sure it will be perfect by the time Beau needs to use it.

What kid can be so excited about bedtime?!?! We alternate nights and love to read the silly nursery rhymes. Lincoln knows all the words and shouts out his favorite parts. You should hear him read "Bobby Shafto's Gone to Sea." He loves to say Bobby Shafto over and over. He also sings Lucy Locket pretty well. I'm sure Beau will know all the words by now and can sing with us. We always end the night with "Rock the Boy," which is our grown up (not baby) version of "Rock A-Bye Baby" specially made for Linc.

A Little Extra

Lincoln is EXTRA cute these days. He is so giggly and silly and keeps us laughing constantly. His favorite things to say right now are, "Hey Mommy!"and "Morning Daddy!". He's really into "greeting" people I guess. He's the best little repeater ever. I told him "be back in a sec babe" and I heard him say that to his Mickey pillow a few minutes later. He caught me in the shower after I told him I was just going to the bathroom and said "Mommy no teetee - Mommy in the shower!" He doesn't miss a thing!

Lincoln is EXTRA smart these days, too. He really takes in our surroundings and pays attention in the car. He can always tell me where we're going before we get there. Turning on one particular street means we're going to Ammy and E's, pulling into the shopping center parking lot means we're going to look for an Elmo or Mickey book, driving down the access road means we're almost to church, and entering our alley means he needs to start bossing me around about what to do when we get home. It's unbelievable that he recognizes where we are!
As for Mommy . . . my feet are EXTRA swollen, my back is EXTRA sore, and my nerves are EXTRA shot! I guess I'm realizing how soon Baby Beau is going to join us, so we're in hurry up mode around here. I washed all of his stuff today which was quite a task. Why does he need so many things???? The crib and dresser are at our house, but we had to reorder the chest - trying not to panic!! Samantha came over to get us started on painting tonight, and we just need to get the trim and accent pieces done. It has been a super busy weekend, but I'm glad we got so much accomplished. Kevin put together his new desk (it had 29 steps!) successfully - now I've just got to get him started on the crib and closet unit. I know we're all EXTRA tired and will sleep well tonight!
