Sporty Father's Day

Father's Day was full of sports for the Kuhlmans.  Lincoln and some of his T-Ball teammates have formed an indoor soccer team, and their first game was early in the afternoon.  (Lincoln tried soccer when he was 3 1/2, and it didn't go well.  He just didn't understand why there was only one ball for 20 kids to chase after, and no one was letting him take a turn.  We took a long break from soccer, but he started asking about it again recently.  It was perfect timing to try again with his baseball buddies.)  Kevin and Linc got all ready with new shoes, socks, shorts and shin guards.  Linc was looking snazzy in his Tornadoes uniform.  The team had a little warm-up and practice followed by a quick strategy session, and they were ready to go!  The Tornadoes got busy quickly and really took charge of the game.  It was totally swarm soccer, but everyone was really involved and eager to get their kicks.  Lincoln is #6.
Indoor soccer is played on a smaller field with five on five kids at a time and no goalies.  It's fast, play rarely stops, and the kids really enjoyed it.  Most of the play went on at the other end of the field because we were scoring so much!  The other team was even less experienced than we were, and we dominated the game.  We think the score was 24-2!  Our team even celebrated for the other team's goals because they didn't give up.  Soccer was so much fun, and it was a great first game!
We came home to rest a little (and do mountains of laundry and prepare a special Father's Day dessert for later) before heading out to the club for the rest of the afternoon.  We met Nana and Pops at the pool to swim for a couple of hours, and it was so nice.  Lincoln really worked on his swimming skills, and he did great!  Beau did lots of playing in both pools and had fun.
They had a shooting war!  Beau loves that he is big enough to be in the shallow end of the big pool with Lincoln.  It's fun in the kiddie pool but so grown up in the big pool!
We got cleaned up and went to have dinner on the patio overlooking the golf course and practice areas.  It was delicious!  The boys were pretty quiet after the food arrived - they were starving after so much swimming and ate a lot!  Daddy and Lincoln did some putting practice after dinner.  Lincoln is so excited about golf!
Beau and Pop Pop had a giant Jenga game, and it is surprising that Beau is pretty good.  He is somehow very gentle with the blocks, which is not at all like his usual (not gentle) self!  They reset the game and got Nana involved for a second game.
We took a cart out to ride the back 9 as a little family of 4, and it was peaceful and breezy.  Beau got a little sleepy from the cool wind and easy lull of the ride, but he kept his eyes open even though his head was heavy on my chest.  We came to our house for a special Strawberry Shortcake Trifle dessert (why didn't I take a picture of the gorgeous yummy dessert in fancy glasses?!?!), and then we had cards and a few gifts.  The boys got Daddy a new carry on suitcase with 4 wheels for his travels and lots of Hershey bars.  They knew that Kevin had already seen the suitcase (because we all bought it together) so he needed something he didn't know about.  They both know that Daddy loves Hershey bars, so they thought that would be perfect.  And they are sure that Daddy will share them!  While shopping for the suitcase at Bed, Bath & Beyond, Lincoln spotted a gift for Pop Pop . . . a popcorn machine.  "Mom, Pop Pop needs a POPcorn machine, right?"  So he got it and a bag of popcorn kernels, too.  So fun that Lincoln picked out a gift with a purpose.  It was great to spend time with these two fathers.  Bubbles was on call this weekend in Arkansas, but I got to talk with him on the phone for a while.  Allyson was visiting, and I hear a cooking lesson was going to happen in the evening for her to prepare dinner.  As long as they made sure the meat was fully cooked, I'm sure it was safe!  Mommy picked out a gift for Bubbles, but Beau was in charge of his card.  He ran to me in the card aisle with so much excitement!  "This card is perfect for Bubbles because this picture is my favorite thing and it is Bubbles' favorite thing too!!!!  We have to get it!"  To be honest, I didn't even check to see that it was a Father's Day card because Beau was so excited.  Kevin verified that it does say Happy Father's Day, but it wouldn't even matter.  It is so sweet that the boys really pick out things mindfully, things that they just know will be perfect.  It was a great day to celebrate and think about how great our fathers, and the boys father, really are.  We are blessed with three men that love us and take care of us through so many stages of life, and Lincoln and Beau can learn so much from them about how they will be fathers.  They are always talking about when they will get big and be a Daddy . . . slow down time, let them be little for a while!  Happy Father's Day!
