We have really had quite a mild winter, and each week Daddy predicts that the one cold day we have is the LAST of the season. He jinxed us pretty hard . . . after our ice days on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, and a little bit of snow on Wednesday, we thought we were done. Mother Nature had other plans! Daddy went to Chicago for a quick work trip at the end of the week, and he was flying back on Friday morning. A full day of snow began just as school started on Friday. Luckily, it was just snow and no ice, but people don't react very well to any winter precipitation around here. School was still on for the day, but Mommy's office building shut down at noon. The new was reporting that DFW was cancelling departures and arrivals, and Daddy just needed to get home!! After a brief delay, he was one of the last flights to land on Friday afternoon. Mommy picked up Lincoln from school, and a bonus kid . . . Nick's mom called to ask if he could stay for a bit at our house before they could get to him. They boys were going to play in the snow for a bit, until they realized it was really cold! We headed home to warm up with snacks and some ping pong!
Lincoln went to play with Beau at Nana and Pops for a bit in the afternoon, and they had tons of fun. Beau had a bit of time before Lincoln got there to play in the snow. We all met up for dinner before having a fun movie night!
Lincoln and Beau were invited to Clark's 6th birthday party on Saturday morning, and they were super excited. Mrs. Emily moved the party from their scheduled location (their church fellowship hall) to their house in the neighborhood, so it would be less risky for all to travel. The snow had begun to melt then freeze, as it always does in North Texas. Sweet Emily opened their home to a wild bunch of boys, bless her! She had made each boy a ninja shirt to wear and a ninja sword to fight with. They had so much fun!!
A few parents stayed to help corral the kiddos, and they super enjoyed cupcake time! This wild group was super quiet for about 6 minutes . . . the amount of time for little boys to inhale a cupcake.
We stayed in for most of Saturday and watched movies and played more ping pong. It was nice to just be together and play.
Somehow Lincoln and Beau ended up dressed for like this for Sunday brunch at the club:
It was a combination of Daddy saying no jackets, Mommy saying the visor was fine, and the boys picking out their own outfits/shoes. At least there was a warm fire and a delicious brunch! The boys played school in Lincoln's bed for a while with their stuffed animals and books. Those are two super bossy teachers . . . glad not to be one of those stuffed animals!
The rest of Sunday was laundry and cleaning, followed by a nap by all. Love that! We made the yummiest chicken parmesan and more homemade chocolate chip cookies for dinner. It seems like this cold weather has us cooking so much. We read a few library books before it was time for baths and bed, and Lincoln's reading is getting better each day. The week ahead is full of school/work/lessons/parties . . . and probably more chocolate chip cookies!
