Late Summer Bedtimes

One of Lincoln's greatest privileges is "weekend nights."  He loves Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights because he gets to stay up after baths/bedtime to enjoy a little older brother fun.  Sometimes he works on a Lego set, sometimes we work on his reading, sometimes we watch really old Road Runner cartoons on You Tube, and sometimes we just hang out.  He LOVES the idea of weekend nights.  This week he got the idea to lobby for weekday "weekend nights" for some reason.  His logic was pretty solid . . . "until it's time to start Kindergarten, I can stay up a little later and do fun stuff with you, but when I start Kindergarten I will have to go to bed early."  Since my heart practically melted on the spot, we are obviously enjoying late nights this summer!  On this night, Lincoln brought a joke book out and requested that we read every single knock-knock joke.
Knock knock
Who's there
Hutch
Hutch Who
Bless you!  You sneezed!
This sweet smile with a giant laugh was the reward for that lame joke!
Knock knock
Who's there?
Boo
Boo Who
Boo Hoo, Why are you crying?
Seriously the laughs are too much!  How can one not be happy when telling knock knock jokes to a five year old who laughs like crazy at everything?!?!  Sweetest laughs ever!
Someone (who is not 5) has to go to bed on time, and he is just getting wind of the extra time going on.  For the first time, Beau emerged from his bedroom to see what all of the laughing was about.  He jumped on the couch to participate in the joke book too.  Beau loves to laugh at jokes.  He had no idea about the actual joke, but he's savvy enough to know when it's time to laugh!  When he was asked to make up his own knock knock joke, it wasn't pretty.
Knock knock
Who's there?
Pineapple underpants
Pineapple underpants who?
Pineapple underpants booty poop!
So gross, and we are working on using less potty words.  Apparently boys (of all ages!) like to use potty words at all times!!!!!)  Why??????  At least our little party crasher was super cute!
We read the rest of the book and the favorite joke at the end was super funny.
Knock knock
Who's there?
Orange juice
Orange juice who?
Orange juice glad this book is over!
YES!!!!!!!!!
We had a fun time reading our joke book after bedtime, and these precious days of summer will be gone soon.  This is the time to soak up the last days before real school and a real schedule takes over.  Such a fun time with two sweet little guys laughing hysterically!  Knock knock jokes are the best because even if you don't understand them, you know the cue to laugh.  And laugh we did . . .
